NSW Conversion Practices Ban
Anti-Discrimination NSW
Project Overview
We were engaged by Anti-Discrimination NSW to create an accessible animated explainer suite about the NSW Conversion Practices Ban Act 2024, which came into effect in April 2025.
Aimed primarily at LGBTQA communities, the campaign helps raise awareness of the ban on harmful change and suppression (“conversion”) practices across the state and clearly outlines people’s rights under the new legislation.
The Approach
Our role was to adapt an existing animation we originally created for the Victoria Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission. We updated the content, colour palette, aligned the work with Anti-discrimination NSW’s brand, and expanded the project into a suite of translated and accessible versions tailored to the NSW legislation.
Accessibility
Accessibility was central to the project.
Alongside the English version, we produced fully translated animations in Greek, Arabic, Korean, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Each version included updated on-screen text, captions, and voiceover performed by native-speaking artists.
This project also marked our first Auslan (Australian Sign Language) translation, performed by a Deaf LGBTQA translator, helping ensure the information is accessible to Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities.
We also created a version specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander audiences with new voice over and tailored illustrative elements.
The Result
The project was created by an entirely LGBTQA team, with voiceover by non-binary actor Mantshologane Maile and proud Indigenous actress Steph Tisdell.
Mantshologane recorded at Studio Under the Stairs an LGBTQA-run studio that shares our values of care, inclusion, and community.
We’re proud to have contributed to a public awareness campaign that supports LGBTQA safety, autonomy, and dignity, and reflects what’s possible when accessibility and lived experience are centred from the start.
