Here & Now is a four-part animated series created in partnership with Transhub and ACON Health. The project was developed to support trans and gender diverse people navigating the healthcare system following experiences of sexual violence, while also providing targeted training for the clinicians who deliver this care.

The series comprises of two films for patients and two for clinicians, recognising that both groups require clear, trauma-informed information, presented in different ways. This is an area where many people face significant barriers to safe, affirming healthcare, making accessible and accurate resources essential.

The Approach

Knuckles Animation Studio led the project from concept development through to final delivery, working in close collaboration with Transhub.

Key elements of the approach included:

• A fully animated format to prioritise anonymity and emotional safety

• Community-led development, with authentic trans voices shaping the content from the outset

• Feedback sessions with sexual assault treatment services to ensure clinical accuracy and real-world usefulness

• Trauma-informed language and structure tailored separately for patient and clinician audiences

• Accessibility features, including closed captions across the series

This collaborative process ensured the content was inclusive, practical, and appropriate for both support and training contexts.

Visual Style

The series was designed using a bespoke illustrated style. A cast of original characters was designed in close collaboration with Transhub, grounded in real trans identities.

Trans community members donated their voices to the characters, bringing lived experience directly into the work. Dr Ellie, a practising doctor and advocate for trans health equity, also voiced her own character, reinforcing the series’ clinical credibility.

The visual tone is calm, respectful, and emotionally supportive, aligning with trauma-informed principles while remaining clear and accessible for healthcare settings.

The Result

Here & Now has been viewed thousands of times and distributed to every health service provider across NSW. The videos are freely available on the Transhub website, allowing clinicians to access training at any time and enabling ongoing use across the health system.
